Whilst she was still an undergraduate, Winne
made a name for herself by providing consultancy
services for the NUS Second Life project. A
spirited ambassador of the University and the
School, she has also been fronting NUS-SoC
publicity efforts over the past months.
At the recent NUS Achievement Awards 2008, Winne
made news again, this time, for her
entrepreneurial drive. In recognition of her
achievements in this area, which includes
DreamAxis, a technology-based company that she
is currently incubating at the SoC Incubation
Centre, Winne was presented an individual award
for enterprise.
Joining her in the ranks of individual award
winners was Travis Ho. No stranger to the
winners’ podium, Travis took home an IT Youth
Award for 2008 earlier in the year, in the
annual awards for the infocomm industry
organised by the Singapore Computer Society.
An avid game developer, Travis has blazed a
trail of winning records in local and
international game and AI competitions. This
feat has earned him an NUS Student Achievement
for individual achievements in the competition
category.
In addition to bagging two out of four
individual awards, SoC has done well in the
various group categories. Final-year
undergraduate Chew Yan Jun and third-year
undergraduate Aditya Santoso, both in the
School’s Computer Engineering programme, won a
group award each for their active participation
in the NUS Choir.
For his involvement in the NUS Chinese Debate
Team, graduate student Li Hongyang took home a
group
award in the debating and language-related
category.
Third-year Computing undergraduate Chen Jiayang,
who received a group away for his involvement in
the Sheares Hall Chingay Committee, completes
the School’s stable of winners NUS Student
Achievement Awards 2008.
Organised by the University’s Office of Student
Affairs, the Awards is a yearly event in
recognition of individual students or student
groups for their outstanding contributions in
activities outside the academic curriculum. |
